Over the last 10 years Prolectric have worked closely with many Local Authorities and Blue Chip companies in developing reliable and cost effective temporary and permanent solar lighting solutions. UWE underwent a huge expansion and redevelopment. Part of the contract required the provision for a contractors car park. This was formed on an area of grassland which had no power supply available.
The project required the setup of temporary lighting in the contractors car park immediately without causing delays to the project. The lighting requirement was that it needed to provide a safe and secure environment for the contractors. The grounds also needed to be returned to grassland once the project was completed. The lighting further needed to provide an energy efficient solution while reducing noise, emissions and reducing fuel and installation costs.
The UWE contractors car park was contracted through Speedy Services at the time and Senior Electrical Engineer, Martin Kemp, commented ‘We were first made aware of the technology by Speedy Services, which was when the lighting difficulties were faced for the car park.
After researching the product more, we decided to install 20x ProTemp Temporary Solar Street Lights/Lighting Columns onsite. The deployment took less than an hour. The ProTemps produced an excellent level of light and I am pleased with their performance through the harsh winter months’.
Martin added, ‘As well as the savings from zero running costs, it has been fantastic to use a renewable lighting product. It would have taken 4 to 6 weeks to get power to site at a great expense. The ground can be returned to grassland with extreme ease’.

Martin KempAfter researching the technology in more detail, we decided to install Prolectric’s solar lighting on our site. The installation was completed in early November and I am pleased to say that the technology has performed very well through the harsh winter months.
Steve HodgesQinetiQ has a target of becoming a Net-Zero company with ambitious near-term GHG emission reduction targets. To assist with this ambition, Prolectric assessed our lighting needs, developed a detailed site lighting plan and installed over 129 solar street lights and bollards at our Headquarters at Cody Technology Park. The new lights are bright and reliable, improving health and safety during the hours of darkness. The lighting is high quality and proving to be robust in harsh weathers. All lighting completed so far, has required minimal maintenance and the installation has been well received by both the company and our tenants alike.
Simon HomerMany months of operation, has resulted in further projects being considered by the council. Our solar lighting trial has been a huge success, feedback from both the householders and our own maintenance team has been really positive.
John HopkinHaving used Prolectric for several lighting projects now, I find their approach, ease of use, knowledge and range of products to be very good. It’s fantastic to be able to work with such a reliable and proactive supplier installing solar lighting adaptions’ to existing street lighting as well as new designs. The works are incredibly low impact for our families and cause no issues while being completed but result in much better lighting designs as well as eliminating the cost of traditional street lighting electricity bills for our client.
